Origins of NOWR
Originally founded as a way to promote the sport of whitewater paddling in combination with American Whitewater to provide a platform for paddlers to compete in an organized series of Freestyle whitewater competitions. What started as a grassroots effort by passionate paddlers and local clubs evolved into a well-respected organization that hosted the most prestigious whitewater events in the country.

Evolution of Whitewater Rodeos
Whitewater rodeos have a long history in the paddling community, with roots dating back to the early days of the sport (1980's?). These events evolved over time, incorporating new disciplines and categories to cater to the diverse interests of paddlers. Hole Riding, downriver freestyle, ocean surf and lately class V downriver races have all had a place in competitions over the years.

Impact on the Paddling Community
The National Organization of Whitewater Rodeos played a crucial role in fostering a sense of community among paddlers and promoting the sport to a wider audience.
